Family Safari Southern Tanzania Itinerary

Day 1: Arrival in Dar es salaam

On arrive  at Dar es Salaam International Airport you will be met by our representative and your driver guide and we will take you to Tanzanite Executive Suits or(similar) hotel in Dar es Salaam. Breakfast included.

Day 2: Dar es Salam – Mikumi National Park

After breakfast your family safari will start by driving to Mikumi  National Park, (drive  for some 5-7 hours) en route  you will see a lot of local farms and a stunning view of Uluguru Mountain, (picnic lunch will be served on the way). Reach the lodge in the after noon, after check in and some rest, you will go out for an afternoon game drive at Mikumi National Park. Mikumi Park is a part of Selous Game Reserve ecosystem hence big animals like Elephants, Zebras, wildebeest and others migrate back and forth in this park, other animals to be seen are Lions, Hyenas, jackals, Giraffes, Buffaloes, Hippos and many antelopes. Rarely tree climbing lion can be spotted on the trees.

Overnight at Tan Swiss hotel or similar in Mikumi. All meals included.

Day 3: Full day Game Drive in Mikumi National Park

After breakfast leave the lodge for a morning game drive at Mikumi National Park, break for lunch at your lodge. After lunch and some rest embark on your sunset game drive. drive back to the lodge before or during the sunset.

Day 4: Mikumi – Udzungwa Mt. National Park

The Big Cat, family safari Southern Tanzania Mikumi/Udzungwa and the remote Ruaha combine Zanzibar Beaches continues, after breakfast depart the lodge for a hiking trip at Udzungwa Mountain National Park, first check in at Udzungwa forest Camp at the foot of the Mountain, and then start your way to the gate for registration before you hike. Picnic lunch will be taken on the mountain possibly at the water falls. Hiking is of about 2.5 kilometers in moderate and steep areas. You will visit the water falls drops in three stages  40 m, 70m  and 200m all together known as Sanje Water Falls.The park is relatively small and the major activity in this park is hiking but one can never get tired when hiking in this Mountain, the park is beautiful, the water fall, animals and birds and the views of the areas around is a pure nature.

Alternatively

After breakfast depart the lodge for for a village tour and Canoeing trip at Kilombero River. The canoeing trip includes fishing, Hippos and Crocodile are inhibit in this River. Lunch box will be served at the river bank or in the village. A village tour will  take you to the local farms of sugarcane as they are very close to the big sugar factory of Kilombero, other areas of interest will be visited and general you will have a chance to experience the livelihood of the people around this area. Drive back to the Camp before or during the sunset.

Overnight at Udzungwa Forest Camp or similar in Udzungwa. All meals included.

Day 5: Udzungwa – Ruaha National Park

This day you will leave early in the morning  for Ruaha National Park, the largest National Park in Tanzania after recently being combined with Usangu Game Reserve, now the Park covers an area of about 15,000 squre Kilometers and it is home to huge Elephant herds found nowhere else in this Continent of Africa. The Park has beautiful land scape and a high concentration of wildlife, its ecosystem is very unique, total wild and almost untouched. You will have lunch box on the way and arrive at the Park gate in the afternoon, after registration and some Park formalities you will start you game drive on the way to the lodge. Lions, Leopard, Hyenas, Jackals, Hippos, Buffaloes, Giraffes, Zebras and Many more are to be encountered in Ruaha. For bird lovers this is the place.

Day 6 – 8: Full Day of Game Drives in Ruaha National Park

Leave the Lodge after breakfast for a full day of game drives in Ruaha, if you wish you can carry lunch box with you and return to the lodge later afternoon or still you can come back to the lodge for hot lunch and some rest, then you go out again for the sunset game drive. There is an option of walking safari in one of these days.

Day 9: Ruaha – Zanzibar Islands

After breakfast we will take  you to Mtemere airstrip to catch your flight to Zanzibar. On arrival at Zanzibar Airport you will be met and transfer to Matemwe Beach Village on the North East of Zanzibar Island. You will then go through the Program for Zanzibar with our Representative.

Overnight at Sunshine Hotel Zanzibar or similar on the North East of the Island. Diner and breakfast included.

Day 10 – 12: Zanzibar Beach

Relax and enjoy your family safari Southern Tanzania & Zanzibar Beach holidays. If you wish you can go out for snorkeling or fishing with local people.Various Sea sports can be organized with the Lodge.

Overnight at Sunshine Hotel Zanzibar or similar on the North East of the Island. Diner and breakfast included.

Day 13: Zanzibar Beach to Stone town

After breakfast depart  for Stone Town, on the way you will do the famous Spice tour, where you can get some in depth information not only about the spice but also for some organically grown herbs with some good information on their uses traditionally in cooking, cosmetics as well as in medicinal. You will also have a chance to test some of tropical fruits growing in this island. After a tour we will invite you for a delicious lunch cooked with spices. Then you drive to stone town and check in at Tembo House Hotel  or similar in Stone Town.

Day 14: Departure Transfer

After Breakfast (depending on your Flight time) we will take you on our Historical Stone Town tour which mostly take 2 and a half hours or 3 hours. This tour takes you to the legendary Stone Town where history is still reflect to the peoples lives, with a visit to the Central Market of Zanzibar, the Former Slave Market, the House of Wanders, The Arab Fort, The People’s Place, Forodhani Garden and many places of interest, you will walk through the narrow lines where you will encounter many souvenir shops and others. After the tour you will go back to the lodge for some refreshment before we take you to Zanzibar Airport for your flight back home.
